Trip to paradise

The little township which i grew up in India, didn’t have Premium cable TV service(with all fun channels) till my 8th grade. Even when the town had it at a later point, my dad was in lots of hesitation to get it.. for the reason being, it would mess with my education but still we got it. It didn’t take long for me to get my eyes stuck to Star Movies most of the time. And most of the Arnold Schwarzenegger movies were in the pre-approved list for me and my sister to watch as they were unbelievably action packed.

This whole run back in history is only to mention, that’s how i ended up watching Arnold’s TRUE LIES. I still remember my first time watching the movie’s climax… “OMG..where in the world is this bridge..built on a sea?” Years later, when i realized what Google is(!)… I did figure out where the bridge was and trip to see the bridge became one of my ‘To-do’ things when i came here to uncle Sam’s land. And here you go… Now ya’ll know my reason to visit Key West, Florida.

I did make sure my trip had a drive through the overseas bridge…To and Fro. Key West is a place where you certainly get to see a huge variety of people from all over the world. I ended up eating a lot of sea food and met a whole lot of nice people who were so nice to interact with.

Para-sailing, Jet skiing, diving, snorkeling and what not…(Mom, if you are reading this… Yes, I ended up swimming in the sea again!..) I have only seen coral reef on Discovery and never this close. The coral reefs were just breath taking and i can just swim around and do it all day and btw..seeing a coral reef that close was one among the 50 things to do before i turn 30.. yaaaay… I would love to go back to this place again.

The place was fun.. fun and fun only… nuff said… 🙂

I traveled with all my photo gear. and It’s time to test the motorized dolly i built for video. Yes, the video is coming on in a post later. I know, enough of talking.. Here are the pictures.

Flowers..Flowers..

I still remember the time when i was in high school and whenever i saw a documentary on NATGEO or Discovery where flower blooms were shown, used to wonder ‘how in the world someone managed to capture a flower bloom!?’ Those were the days when we were connecting to the ‘www’ using the weird sounding dialup modems which managed to get us online at 28kbps(!).

I couldn’t find an answer at that point and so this project in here dates back to approximately 15 years. Finally i got to capture the flower blooming moments. Captured over a period of 10 days. Mostly past 10pm. I did a little bit of experimentation before getting started with this project. I had a little table studio setup with all the lights in my patio(I’m pretty sure, my neighbors thought ‘what the hell is this guy upto all night’) because the room’s air-conditioning didn’t make the flowers happy.

If you don’t care much on the how this was done, go straight to the video..

1 picture shot in RAW format every 2 minutes using an intervalometer. The video is played back at 30 frames per second. Which in other words mean, to have the video of 1 second long it’s a hour of shooting. The pictures were color corrected in Adobe Lightroom and exported to JPEG and sequenced in Adobe After Effects.

Gear Used: Canon 5D Mark II & Canon T1i, Canon 100mm f2.8 L IS, Lighting: Continuous white light from Camera right(high) and another one on camera left(low) Software Used: Adobe LR3, Adobe Premiere Pro CS5 & After Effects.

Here is the video, Watch it in HD if your bandwidth permits.

Galena Hot air balloon festival – 2011

To be honest, I’ve never been this close to a hot air balloon till now. Here are the pictures from my recent trip to the Hot air balloon festival in Galena, Illinois. This was an event for Hot air balloons and vintage cars. I reached there real early and spent the whole day in and around Galena. A mile hike at the Wild Cat state park and a brief history tour at Galena. Now i know where the 18th President of the United States Ulysses S. Grant lived, you guessed it right… Galena,Il.

I did spend lot of time on capturing and experimenting with time-lapses, will share them on a future post.

Picture Info: Shot with my Canon 5D Mark II, Canon 70-200mm f4, Canon 16-35mm f2.8II. Used Adobe Lightroom 3 for white balance and Lens error correction.
