Starved Rock

Here are the pictures i shot during the trips to Starved Rock State Park. The place is just fabulous. Loved my time spent there.

This is pretty much the first time, i got my chance to experiment with my Singh-Ray Grad ND filters.

Grad ND who.. I know… Almost all of us, took pictures of breathtaking scenes(sunsets, sunrises, beaches, more with bright skies..) with our digital cameras and when we see the images back on the computer screen, the sky is washed out white(damn..). The reason being our camera doesn’t see the scene as our eye sees it. Here comes the Singh-Ray Grad ND filters which is a way to fool the camera’s sensor to underexpose the parts of the image that are too bright and bring the sky back to life. These filters are a gift to Landscape photographers

P.S: Too little experiment, I know. More to come in future posts. I would also post with/without filter pictures in a later post.

Gear Used: 5D Mark II, Canon 16-35mm, Singh-Ray Grad ND Filters(2-Stop, Hard-Step & 3- Stop, Soft-Step), Fader Solid ND 400.

Software Used: Adobe LightRoom 3

I know a place

Here is the project i have been working on for quite a while. All these were shot at one my favorite places in Illinois, The Starved Rock State Park.

I spent lot of time hiking with all my camera gear to get to some of the waterfalls in this video. It’s been raining here real heavy which is adding lovable colors and flavor to this is place. I had lots of fun shooting this whole project.

Most of the days, i was on the road as early as 3a.m to reach the park and i ended-up camping few days to be up by sunrise(well, and to save on gas too(!))

And here is the video. Watch it in HD.

Gear used: Canon 5D Mark II, Canon 16-35mm II, Canon 100mm macro IS, Fader ND filter, Canon Intervelometer for the Timelapse. Most of the dolly moves were achieved using a DIY slider i put together(stuff that’s available from Homedepot, has cost me 70$ till now). Main con of the DIY slider was, it didn’t perform very well(Started wobbling) when it got wet and when it was too cold & misty. Indislider mini came in handy in those scenarios(Kessler’s Pocket Dolly has already been added to my wishlist).

Software Used: Post-Processing and color correction done with Adobe Premiere Pro CS5, Adobe Lightroom 3 to color correct the images i shot for the time-lapse bit at the end of the video.

If vimeo is killing your cpu, here is the youtube link(If your bandwidth allows, turn HD on).,

Survival

Found this little fella in our vegetable storage cupboard and I’m just amazed by the way life-form can adopt to the changes. Anyway time for photoshoot.

Setup Info: Canon 580EX II set at 1/128th of power triggered with PW from above.

Note: No Onions were harmed in the making of this picture.

Rainy day

It’s Sunday and it started raining. You’ve gotta be kidding me…. coz i had plans to get out to the city and guess what, Metra was operating trains behind schedule.

Anyway, i decided to get around my apartment complex and shoot the rain. I always have shot video with my DSLR on my trips but never had a nice output(Camera shake, blurred video, blah..blah). Now here i go with my l HDSLR video that made it out of my Hard-Disk.

Shot several clips and at the end Post processed them with Adobe Premiere Pro CS5. I mostly used my Canon 70-200mm f4 and Canon 100mm f2.8 IS lens to shoot this whole video.

Watch it in HD.(HD is Off by default. Click on the HD option in the video to enable it.)

I had my umbrella strapped onto my tripod to save my SLR and the lenses. Will share the setup in a later post.
